Prototyping and Scale Models
Scale models printed in 3D
A render is something you look at. A model is something you pick up. Before final production I build physical scale models that let you judge the piece in real space, with the weight and presence a screen cannot convey.
Models are 3D printed in PLA. They are there to settle form, volume, proportion and fit: the look of the material is not something you judge on a model, you judge it on the slab, which we can look at together in the workshop.
It matters most when the decision is not yours alone. There is almost always someone else to convince: the architect's client, a business partner, the person at home who has to agree to a serious expense. Something you can pick up settles the discussion in one meeting instead of three.
- Validation of volume, proportion and fit on a real model
- A decision-making tool for commissioned work and major pieces
- Lower risk on investments in precious material
The service is always agreed at the outset, based on the nature and importance of the project.
What I will do for you
-
Introductory Meeting
We get to know each other and talk about the project: your idea, the materials you would like to use, and any specific requirements.
1 -
Feasibility Study
I study the most suitable material for the piece or furnishing element, and any engineering adjustments that may be needed.
2 -
Rendering and 3D Model
I create the render and the 3D model, starting to identify potential issues early on.
3 -
Prototype Printing
I print the prototype, both in miniature and to scale, to spot any issues before final production.
4 -
Final Piece
I create the final version of the piece in marble.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions
Qui trovi una lista delle domande con le risposte più frequenti, ma per qualunque dubbio, chiarimento, o semplicemente per fare due chiacchiere sul tuo progetto, non esitare a contattarci!
- What material are the scale models made from?
Models are 3D printed in PLA. They are there to judge form, volume and proportion: the look of the material is judged on the real slab instead, which we can look at together.
- Is this always included, or only for particular projects?
It is always agreed with the client at the outset, based on the characteristics and importance of the project.
- What scale do you usually work at?
It depends on the project. A common scale is 1:10, but it varies with the dimensions of the finished piece.
- How much does this service cost?
The cost depends on the specific project and the time needed to build the model, and is set together with the overall quotation.
